The Francis Wyman Association hosted a Patriots Day commemoration of Amos Wyman giving refuge to John Hancock and Sam Adams at Amos’s home as they fled the British on April 19, 1775.

Phil Wright of Spring Hill, FL (third from the left in the picture above) organized a walk through the woods from the Francis Wyman house to the site of the Amos Wyman house. A monument, placed at the Amos Wyman homestead site commemorates the April 19, 1775 event.

Phil Wright provided welcoming remarks at the Wyman house and retold the story of how two of our country’s leading founders evaded the British, ending up in the Billerica countryside. Phil placed a wreath at the monument and his great-niece placed a small cow statue in remembrance of the gift from John Hancock to Kezia Wyman who had hosted the prominent figures.

Phil and his niece and great-niece were dressed in period apparel and Bill Hitchcock and John from the 2nd Parish Minutemen Burlington were on hand lending color to the ceremonies. About 27 people paticipated in the trek though the woods and a tour of the Wyman house.

The recreated well at the Wyman house now has abnout a foot of water in it and that permitted demonstrations of the well and well sweep.

Many thanks to Phil Wright for his inititative in setting up the event, and coming suitably dressed for the occasion!
